In Sierra Leone, the fight against Ebola may finally be swinging in favor of the people. But there is still vital work to be done.

The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a press release this morning stating that a week has now passed in the West African nation without any new Ebola cases reported — a first since the the outbreak began in 2014.

“This is very good news but we have to keep doing this intensive working with communities to identify potential new cases early and to rapidly stop any Ebola virus transmission,” said WHO Representative in Sierra Leone Anders Nordstrom, PhD, in the release.

According to WHO, the Ebola response has moved to “stage 3,” which means responders are now working to track down any possible remaining transmissions in the country.
