A joint meeting between health authorities was held today to review Hong Kong’s preparedness for dealing with any Ebola cases.

Hospital Authority Chief Infection Control Officer Dr Dominic Tsang told reporters that the meeting discussed control measures in hospital emergency rooms and laboratories, and guidelines on the use of testing medicine.

He also displayed the personal protective equipment healthcare workers will use in treating suspected Ebola patients.

Dr Tsang said that as the disease is mainly transmitted through direct contact with infected patients’ blood and body fluids, the equipment must protect the eyes, nose, mouth and any wounds on the worker’s body.

The gear includes a water-proof cap and coat, face shield and mask, gloves and shoe covers.

Centre for Health Protection Controller Dr Leung Ting-hung said an inter-departmental meeting will be held tomorrow to discuss control measures at the community level.

The Government has started distributing information on the disease at hotels and guesthouses where African visitors stay. (http://j.mp/1sUopVu)
