Catherine Machalaba, Program Coordinator for Health and Policy, EcoHealth Alliance, “Zika, Ebola and Other Emerging Diseases: Exploring Animal and Environmental Connections to Human Health”

Bio: Catherine Machalaba, MPH is the Program Coordinator for Health and Policy at the non-profit organization EcoHealth Alliance. Her research focuses on advancing coordinated and preventive systems that promote human, animal and environmental health given their integral links. Under the USAID Emerging Pandemic Threats PREDICT-2 project she is currently analyzing the effectiveness of One Health approaches. She also manages the Future Health project under the Future Earth international scientific platform on global environmental change and holds roles in the IUCN Species Survival Commission and American Public Health Association. Her prior work includes West Nile virus surveillance with the Vermont Department of Health and an internship with the Vermont Attorney General’s Office. Catherine holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Wake Forest University and an MPH from The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.
