Though the Ebola outbreaks in West Africa are over, the World Health Organization (WHO) says flare-ups in the region are likely. It’s crucial that researchers find a cure before the next epidemic, and luckily new studies show that a cure may be near.

According to a press release issued by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, two new studies found that antibodies harvested from Ebola survivors stopped the virus’ symptoms five days after infection.

Though several antibody combinations have been tested, lead researcher Davide Corti wanted to find a single or dual-combination agent that could offer a simpler, effective treatment. Corti is from the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Bellinzona, Switzerland.
