Nigerian college students going to study in the United States may be subjected to extra health checks when they arrive to study in the country due to the Ebola outbreak in the West African region.
With the virus continuing to kill in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, the expected arrival of thousands of students from those countries has U.S. authorities on alert but cautioning against alarm.
The American College Health Association said the move was just precautionary to curtail the recent outbreak, which has been described as the worst ever to hit the West African region.
According to the U.S. government, more than 9,728 active students from Nigeria, 204 from Liberia, 169 from Sierra Leone and 95 students from Guinea study in American colleges.
Universities in the United Kingdom are also on alert with the expected arrival of thousands of Nigerian students there.
