Johns Hopkins undergrads like Shaw Scholar Gabriela Frid participated in a design challenge to create better personal protective equipment (PPE) for Ebola healthcare workers. Having the students work alongside faculty and clinicians, bringing raw creativity and expertise together, allows for the creation of something new, explains Youseph Yazdi, executive director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design, who adds that with the help of Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, a licensing deal was finalized with DuPont, a major PPE manufacturer.
