The current Ebola outbreak, centered in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s North Kivu province, is particularly challenging to contain. The epicenter of the outbreak is in an area of active conflict, which makes it difficult to provide care for those affected, as well as track contacts and chains of transmission. The outbreak is occurring in densely populated areas, and very close to the Uganda border. In this interview, Dr. Tomas Jensen, tropical medicine advisor for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), explains how teams are working with DRC’s Ministry of Health to do everything we can to treat people with Ebola and prevent others from contracting this life-threatening disease.
