West Africa (Libera, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria)
First discovered in 1976
Ebola virus = Filovirus
Infects Monkey & Bat.
Incubation period is 5-10 days
Transmission through skin contact,

Symptoms: Hemorrhage, petechiae, ecchymosis, maculopapular rash, pharyngitis, fever, dyspnoe, coughing, chest pain, muscle pain (myalgia), jaundice, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, conjunctival infection (red eyes), photophobia, headache, delirium, stupor, coma,

50% die

Complications: reccurent hepatitis, transverse myelitis, uveitis, orchitis.

Diagnosis: symptoms, blood tests, enzyme-linked immunosorbent blood assay (ELISA), Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Electron microscope

Treatment: only supportive and prevention (quarantine)
